It’s with great satisfaction that we at Kimberlite
Records present to you the first single by Jett
Straker & Guiding Principle!

Jett is a first-generation Canadian whose
family emigrated from the tropical paradise of
Trinidad to settle up here in the frozen wastes
of Edmonton, but if you’re hoping to hear
calypso or soca rhythms, you’re about to be
disappointed. This record showcases Jett’s
astonishing vocal range and is heavily
influenced by 1970’s Chicago crossover
like Dakar-era Otis Leavill or Young Mod’s
Forgotten Story era Impressions.

The A side, ‘Cause I’m Ready is a bright
arrangement that tells a universal story of
personal growth and finding the courage to
leave a toxic relationship.

One Thing I Know on the B side however is
a perfect contradiction to the previous track,
it’s a grief-stricken deep soul ballad that
remorsefully bemoans a love lost too soon.
Don’t worry about Jett though, we’ve set
him up a Tinder account and are hopeful
he’ll find “The One” soon.
